Naftogaz definitively wins $1.4 billion lawsuit against Gazprom

Ukrinform
Naftogaz won a final ruling against Gazprom, securing $1.4 billion plus interest for unpaid gas transit fees.

Summary

Naftogaz Group has achieved a definitive legal victory against Gazprom, with the Swiss Federal Supreme Court rejecting Gazprom’s attempt to overturn a $1.4 billion arbitral award. The award stems from Gazprom’s failure to fully pay for natural gas transportation services through Ukraine, violating contractual obligations. Despite maintaining transit through the Sudzha entry point after suspending it through Sokhranivka following the full-scale invasion, Gazprom refused to remit full payment. The court also mandated Gazprom to cover CHF 200,000 in court costs and CHF 250,000 in Naftogaz’s legal expenses. Sergii Koretskyi, CEO of Naftogaz, stated that the company will continue enforcing the award and pursuing other legal actions against Russia. The initial arbitration ruling was made in June 2025, and Naftogaz launched the proceedings in September 2022 to address unpaid transit charges.
