$117.5M Comcast settlement offers payouts after 2023 data breach: What to know
Summary
Comcast has reached a $117.5 million settlement following a class action lawsuit stemming from a data breach in October 2023 that exposed customer personal information. The lawsuit alleged insufficient security measures and inadequate notification to customers after the breach. While Comcast denies any wrongdoing, customers notified of the breach in December 2023 may be eligible for compensation.
Eligible customers can submit claims for reimbursement of documented out-of-pocket expenses or lost time, up to $10,000, or opt for an alternative payment of up to $50. Identity defense and restoration services are also available. Claims must be submitted online or by mail by August 14, 2026, pending court approval of the settlement.
Customers have options beyond filing a claim, including doing nothing (forgoing compensation but also the right to sue), excluding themselves to pursue individual legal action, or objecting to the settlement terms. A final approval hearing is scheduled for July 7, 2026.
