Lawsuit causes delays in payment for School Board and Bardstown Landscaping business
Summary
Karen Willett of Willett's Lawn and Landscaping in Bardstown addressed the Shelby County School Board for the second time to express frustration over unpaid invoices totaling over $62,000 for work completed at the Milestone campus a few years ago. Superintendent Joshua Matthews explained that the district paid Redlee Construction, who was supposed to pay Willett's, but the funds are being held up because Redlee is currently involved in a lawsuit with another subcontractor. The district's contingency funds are tied up in this legal dispute, preventing them from moving forward with other projects. Matthews stated that attorneys are working to resolve the issue quickly, and he shared Willett's frustration. In other news, the district launched a new weapons detection system at high schools and is working on next year's budget, which has been challenging due to a loss in SEEK funding and a slight drop in enrollment.
