Trader Joe's settlement deadline is coming up. How to get money

USA TODAY
A $7.4 million class-action settlement deadline is approaching for eligible Trader Joe's customers who received receipts with partial credit card numbers.

Summary

A $7.4 million class-action settlement is available to eligible Trader Joe's customers who made purchases between March 5, 2019, and July 19, 2019, and received receipts displaying the first six and last four digits of their credit or debit card numbers. The settlement resolves a lawsuit alleging that Trader Joe's violated the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACTA) by printing more than the last five digits of card numbers on receipts, which could increase the risk of identity theft. Although the grocery chain denied any wrongdoing, it agreed to settle to avoid further litigation. The plaintiff, Brian Keim, filed the suit after receiving a receipt with his debit card details. Eligible claimants can submit their claims online or by mail until June 9. The estimated payout for each eligible claimant is $102.45, subject to the number of valid claims and administrative costs. Checks will be distributed within 10 business days after final court approval.
