Bihar Government offers ‘One Time Traffic Challan Settlement Scheme’ for violators

The Hindu
Bihar’s One Time Traffic Challan Settlement Scheme offers 50% fee relief via Lok Adalat on May 9 for pending challans.

Summary

The Bihar government has launched a One Time Traffic Challan Settlement Scheme that provides a 50% reduction in fines for pending traffic challans. The scheme will be implemented through Lok Adalat sessions held on May 9 in every district, but only e-challans that are 90 days old or younger will be eligible. It applies to challans pending until March 31, 2026, and remains in effect through the end of the financial year 2026-27. Payments can be made in cash or via UPI, as announced by Additional Director General of Police (Traffic) Sudhanshu Kumar. In addition, Kumar highlighted the central government’s PM RAHAT scheme, noting its low adoption in Bihar due to lack of awareness; it offers cashless treatment up to ₹1.5 lakh for road accident victims within the golden hour, subject to admission in Ayush Bharat‑covered hospitals within 24 hours. He also outlined directives under Section 136 of the Motor Vehicle Act to ensure vehicles involved in accidents are released within 24 hours after inspection, relieving owners from court involvement.
