Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center will pay $450,000 to settle wage-and-break claims by drivers in its home-delivered meals program.

Summary

Los Angeles County Superior Court records show that the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center has agreed to pay a $450,000 gross settlement in a class-action labor case brought by Jose Vasquez on behalf of drivers and other nonexempt employees in its home-delivered meals program. The suit, filed in March 2025, alleged that workers were not paid for all hours, were forced to continue deliveries after clocking out for meal periods, were denied legally required breaks, and had to use personal cellphones for work without reimbursement. Executive director Kevin MacDonald said the center viewed the case as an administrative matter, not a criticism of its senior services, and followed attorneys' advice after initially denying the claims. The proposed settlement would reimburse all current and former nonexempt employees in California who worked for the center during the covered period, plus workers required to use cellphones for work, with no claim form required and no reversion to the center. More than 100 people may be affected; objections are due July 10, and final approval is scheduled for Aug. 24, 2026.
