Pennsylvania joins $4.87 million settlement over COVID-19 testing practices
Summary
Pennsylvania is among more than a dozen states that reached a $4.87 million settlement with GS Labs over allegations the company overcharged patients for COVID‑19 tests and failed to deliver results within promised timeframes. The multistate investigation found GS Labs advertised inflated cash prices, charging up to $380 per test and nearly $1,000 for multi‑panel tests, and added administrative fees of up to $49 per test despite promising insured patients no out‑of‑pocket costs. Under the agreement, GS Labs will provide $3.6 million in restitution, including $1.7 million for patients who paid administrative fees, and will create an online restitution program overseen by the participating states. The company, which has ceased operations, must change its advertising and sales practices if it resumes testing. Attorney General Dave Sunday said the settlement returns money to Pennsylvanians who relied on the company for timely, fairly priced medical testing during the pandemic. "Pennsylvanians deserve medical testing with integrity, fair pricing, and timely results," Sunday said in a statement. "This settlement will return money to Pennsylvanians who were relying on this company to provide critical and timely medical information."
