Meta Faces Lawsuit Over Alleged AI-Driven Mass Layoffs

The Daily Hodl
Meta is facing a lawsuit alleging the company used artificial intelligence systems to select employees for recent mass layoffs.

Summary

Twenty-six Meta employees have filed a lawsuit alleging that the company utilized a variety of artificial intelligence-assisted systems to identify individuals for recent mass layoffs. The complaint claims that Meta used internal tools, including a large-language-model assistant named "Metamate" and productivity scoring algorithms that monitor keystrokes, screen content, and communication data, to rank and select employees for termination.

According to the lawsuit, these AI tools have substantially replaced traditional manager-driven performance reviews and calibration processes. The plaintiffs are seeking a preliminary injunction to stop imminent layoffs, an independent audit of the company's algorithmic selection processes, and greater accountability regarding how these technologies are used in decision-making.

Meta has strongly denied these allegations, stating that the company does not use artificial intelligence in the manner described for layoff decisions.
