In June 2023, FBI Director Kash Patel filed a $10 million defamation suit against California resident Jim Stewartson over tweets labeling Patel a 'blatantly incompetent chud' and accusing him of involvement in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. Stewartson did not respond, leading to a default judgment in Patel’s favor in August 2025. Stewartson later moved to dismiss, arguing lack of Nevada ties; Chief District Judge Andrew Gordon agreed, vacating the default judgment and dismissing the case. The judge’s order included Stewartson’s 'googly-eyed Kremlin bitch' insult in a footnote, which Stewartson celebrated as now legally permissible. Patel also faces a separate $250 million defamation lawsuit against The Atlantic over allegations of excessive drinking.
