Nationwide class action filed over dangerous Oster oven defect that causes doors to slam shut, burning users
Summary
A nationwide class action lawsuit has been filed against Newell Brands Inc., doing business as Sunbeam Products, alleging a dangerous defect in Oster French Door Countertop Ovens. Plaintiff Monica Corbett claims the ovens, sold for $140-$250, have a design flaw that causes the doors to unexpectedly close, posing a burn hazard to users. Sunbeam allegedly failed to disclose this defect and warn consumers, despite prior recalls and consumer complaints. Corbett herself reportedly suffered burns from the oven.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recalled approximately 1.29 million ovens in September 2025, but the lawsuit argues the provided repair kit is insufficient. The lawsuit covers models TSSTTVFDXL, TSSTTVFDDG, TSSTTVFDMAF and TSSTTVFDDAF sold between August 2015 and July 2025.
Corbett seeks class certification, compensatory and punitive damages, and a court-supervised repair program. The case is Corbett v. Newell Brands Inc., filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York.
