Hyundai recalls over 130,000 Santa Fe vehicles due to fire risk

Hyundai is recalling over 130,000 Santa Fe vehicles due to a potential electrical short that could cause a fire.

Summary

Hyundai is recalling 135,386 Santa Fe vehicles from the 2024 and 2025 model years due to a risk of electrical fires. The recall is a result of a potentially improperly installed B+ positive terminal cover on the starter motor assembly, which could cause an electrical short during a crash. While Hyundai estimates only 1% of vehicles are affected and has received no reports of injuries or accidents, the improperly installed cover “increases the risk of a fire,” according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Owners will be notified by mail on December 1, 2025, and can search for recall information on the NHTSA website starting October 4th. Hyundai is offering free inspections and repairs at dealerships. Owners can also contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460 or visit www.nhtsa.gov for more information. This recall follows an earlier announcement regarding nearly 600,000 vehicles, including Palisade SUVs and IONIQ 6 EVs, due to seat belt issues.
