On Sneaker Customers File a Class Action Lawsuit Over “A Noisy and Embarrassing” Issue
Summary
A federal class action lawsuit has been filed against Swiss running shoe company On, Inc., alleging that several of its popular sneaker models produce a “noisy and embarrassing squeak” with each step. The lawsuit, filed in Oregon, claims the noise stems from the materials used in the shoes and that On has refused to compensate or replace the defective products. Plaintiffs are seeking reimbursement for the cost of the shoes and damages, arguing that the company’s warranty unfairly denies claims related to the squeaking issue.
The models named in the suit – including Cloud 5, Cloud 6, Cloudmonster, and others – retail between $140 and $180 and utilize On’s signature “CloudTec” technology. Customers have reportedly been forced to attempt “significant DIY modifications” to resolve the problem themselves after warranty claims were denied.
While squeaking has been reported in sneakers from other brands like HOKA, Nike, Adidas, and Brooks, this is reportedly the first lawsuit filed specifically addressing the issue. The claimants initiated the suit after a February 2025 request for refunds was ignored by the company.
