Sutter Health $21.5M Privacy Class Action Settlement
Summary
Sutter Health has agreed to a $21.5 million settlement in a class action lawsuit concerning the alleged unauthorized disclosure of patients’ Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and Protected Health Information (PHI) to third parties like Google and Meta. The lawsuit claimed Sutter Health violated California state law by using third-party tracking technologies on its webpages, including the MyHealthOnline portal login page. Approximately 1,628,160 individuals who logged into their MyHealthOnline accounts between June 10, 2015, and March 20, 2020, for personal healthcare purposes and were California residents at the time, are eligible to file a claim for up to $90. Claimants must submit a valid claim form, including a unique ID and PIN from the official settlement notice, by April 28, 2026, and can choose to receive payment via Venmo, PayPal, Zelle, or a mailed check. Settlement funds will be allocated to administration costs, attorneys’ fees and expenses, service awards, and ultimately, payments to approved claimants. Sutter Health denies any wrongdoing but agreed to the settlement to avoid further litigation.
