TX families file class action lawsuit over Ten Commandments classroom displays
Summary
A group of 18 Texas families has filed a class action lawsuit requesting a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction against school districts displaying the Ten Commandments in classrooms, as mandated by Senate Bill 10. The suit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas, names 16 school districts, including seven in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. This is the third legal challenge to the law, following previous lawsuits in July and September. A temporary injunction is already in place from a July lawsuit, preventing 11 districts from displaying the Ten Commandments while the case is appealed, with a hearing scheduled for 2026. Another injunction in September required 14 districts to remove displays by December 1st. The plaintiffs are represented by civil rights organizations, including the American Civil Liberties Union, and most of the named school districts have not yet commented on the latest lawsuit.
