Summary
Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell announced a $45 million settlement with Eversource Energy, designed to provide relief to ratepayers across the state. The settlement resolves 16 long-standing issues, including concerns about vegetation management and pension costs. NSTAR Electric customers will receive a $20 million rate credit, while Eversource Gas of Massachusetts customers will benefit from over $25 million in annual savings following the acquisition of Columbia Gas of Massachusetts.
Specifically, the agreement addresses discrepancies in Eversource’s Resiliency Tree Work program, resulting in $2.5 million in credits, and $17.5 million in credits related to Pension Adjustment Factor issues, both to be distributed starting January 1, 2026. The settlement also provides $25.7 million in annual benefits for ten years to Columbia Gas ratepayers due to operational synergies negotiated by the Attorney General’s office.
Attorney General Campbell emphasized her commitment to affordability and consumer protection, stating, “Affordability and consumer protection are at the forefront of our work.” The Department of Public Utilities was also commended for its role in reducing financial burdens on Massachusetts residents. Furthermore, her office secured $32 million in savings for National Grid Electric ratepayers by challenging extra funding for an electric vehicle program.
