Final week to cash in on Loblaw bread price-fixing settlement
Summary
The final week to submit claims in the Loblaw bread price-fixing class-action settlement is underway, with a deadline of December 12, 2025. The $500-million settlement, approved by courts in Quebec and Ontario, addresses allegations that Loblaw overcharged customers for bread due to an industry-wide price-fixing scheme. Canadians who purchased packaged bread between January 1, 2001, and December 31, 2021, are eligible, and no proof of purchase is required.
While some individuals previously received a $25 Loblaw card, they can still file a claim for additional compensation, contingent on sufficient funds and a minimum payout of $5. The settlement covers a wide range of packaged bread products, excluding frozen or in-store baked items. Weston and Loblaw have already paid $96 million, with a remaining $404 million to be distributed, with 22% allocated to Quebec residents and 78% to the rest of Canada.
Claimants can submit their information through an online form, providing personal details and confirming whether they received a previous $25 card. Processing is expected to take time, with payments likely to be issued in 2026, six to twelve months after the claims deadline. Jim Orr of Orr Taylor LLP stated that “This resolution provides Canadian consumers with the monetary relief they deserve.”
