Ceredigion Welsh Government settlement boost welcomed by MS

A funding agreement between the Welsh Government and Plaid Cymru will increase Ceredigion’s settlement, potentially lowering council tax burdens.

Summary

Ceredigion is set to receive a significantly improved financial settlement from the Welsh Government, thanks to an agreement with Plaid Cymru. Initially slated for a 2.3 per cent increase (£3,388,000, totaling £150,670,000), the settlement will now increase to over 4 per cent with an additional £112.8m allocated to local government in 2026-27. Local Senedd Member Elin Jones stated this boost “could reduce the burden of council tax on ratepayers.” Plaid Cymru negotiated for the protection of public services and the prevention of unaffordable council tax rises, as well as a correction to the initial NHS settlement. The agreement also includes additional funding for the NHS, increasing its settlement from 2.1 per cent to 3.6 per cent. Jones believes the increased funding will relieve pressure on public services and benefit local taxpayers, and highlighted Plaid Cymru’s potential for further positive change if leading the Welsh Government in May.
