Here’s how Coloradans can get a piece of the $700M Google settlement
Summary
Colorado residents who made purchases through the Google Play Store between August 2016 and September 2023 may be entitled to a portion of a $700 million settlement resulting from a lawsuit alleging Google’s monopolistic practices. According to Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser’s office, consumers who were “harmed by Google’s anticompetitive conduct” are eligible, and most will not need to file a claim to receive their payment.
The lawsuit, filed in 2021 by Weiser and a bipartisan coalition of 52 other attorneys general, accused Google of unlawfully monopolizing the Android app distribution market through anticompetitive contracts, acquisitions, and technological barriers. These actions allegedly led to higher prices for consumers. Preliminary approval of the settlement was granted on November 20, initiating the notification process.
Eligible consumers will be notified via email or text message, with payments delivered through PayPal or Venmo if those accounts are linked to their Google Play account. A supplemental claims process will be available for those without existing accounts or who did not receive their expected payment. Consumers wishing to opt out of the settlement or object to its terms must do so by February 19, 2026, with a final approval hearing scheduled for April 30, 2026.
