Cash App settlement approved as users can receive up to $147 - here's who's eligible

The Mirror Us
A $12.5 million settlement has been approved for Cash App users in Washington state who received unwanted referral texts, offering up to $147.

Summary

A federal court has approved a $12.5 million class action settlement against Cash App’s parent company, Block, regarding its “Invite Friends” referral program. The lawsuit alleged that Cash App violated Washington state’s Commercial Electronic Mail Act (CEMA) and Washington Consumer Protection Act (CPA) by allowing users to send unsolicited text messages for a $5 referral bonus. Consumers in Washington state who received these texts between November 14, 2019, and August 7, 2025, and did not consent to receiving them, were eligible to file a claim. While the claim deadline was October 27th, the settlement was approved on December 2nd by U.S. District Judge John Chun. Eligible claimants can receive between $88 and $147, based on the number of approved claims, estimated at no more than 5% of the 1,975,187 class members. Block denies any wrongdoing and maintains its compliance with all applicable laws.
