Dotdash Meredith Beats Privacy Lawsuit Over Meta Info Sharing

Bloomberg Tax News
Dotdash Meredith defeated a class action lawsuit alleging it illegally shared user data with Meta, due to jurisdictional issues.

Summary

Dotdash Meredith Inc., the publisher of People and Entertainment Weekly, has won a dismissal of a proposed class action lawsuit filed in Massachusetts. The suit claimed the company violated the Video Privacy Protection Act by sharing users’ video-viewing information with Meta Platforms Inc. Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton of the US District Court for the District of Massachusetts granted Dotdash’s motion to dismiss, finding that the plaintiffs – Mari Cartagenova, Kevin Mansfield, and Abby Musick – did not demonstrate sufficient company contacts with Massachusetts to establish the court’s jurisdiction. The plaintiffs originally filed the suit in June 2025, alleging improper data sharing practices.
