G.Skill Settles DDR5/DDR4 Memory Speed Lawsuit For $2.4M, How To Submit A Claim

Hot Hardware
G.Skill will pay $2.4 million to settle a lawsuit regarding advertised memory speeds, and consumers can submit claims until April 7, 2026.

Summary

G.Skill has settled a class action lawsuit for $2.4 million concerning allegations of deceptive advertising and labeling of its DDR5 and DDR4 memory module speeds. The lawsuit centered on whether advertised speeds required overclocking and BIOS adjustments, which weren't always clearly communicated to consumers. Plaintiffs claimed they believed advertised speeds were “out of the box” speeds. While G.Skill maintained its products were appropriately labeled, they have agreed to update packaging and product listings to state speeds are “up to” a certain level and require potential adjustments.

The settlement applies to purchases made between January 31, 2018, and January 7, 2026, within the United States. Eligible participants can receive a pro rata share of the settlement fund, with a limit of five claims per household without proof of purchase.

The actual amount distributed to claimants will be less than $2.4 million after deductions for legal fees, administrative costs, and awards to plaintiffs. The claim deadline is April 7, 2026, and a final hearing is scheduled for June 5, 2026. Information on submitting a claim or opting out is available through provided links.
