Air India to adjust Rs25L interim payout against final settlement
Summary
Air India is finalizing compensation for families affected by a tragic air crash. The airline will deduct the Rs 25 lakh already paid as interim compensation from the final settlement amount. Families whose final compensation is Rs 25 lakh or less will receive an additional Rs 10 lakh upon signing a waiver of future claims against Air India, original equipment manufacturers, and government agencies. Air India states that the final compensation amounts are calculated fairly, considering factors like age, income, and dependents, and are in accordance with legal standards. However, a US-based law firm representing over 100 families is advising clients not to sign the waiver until a full investigation into the crash is completed. Air India maintains that “full and final” settlements are standard practice to prevent future claims and has been transparent with families, encouraging them to seek legal counsel before making a decision.
