Epstein estate to pay $35M to victims in major class action settlement
Summary
Jeffrey Epstein’s estate has reached a proposed settlement of up to $35 million to resolve a class action lawsuit accusing two of his close advisors of facilitating his sex trafficking operations. The lawsuit, filed in 2024, targeted Epstein’s former personal lawyer, Darren Indyke, and former accountant, Richard Kahn, both co-executors of his estate. They were accused of assisting Epstein in creating and managing financial structures that enabled his abuse of women and girls.
Despite maintaining their innocence – with their lawyer, Daniel H. Weiner, stating that “Neither Indyke nor Kahn made any admission or concession of misconduct” – the co-executors agreed to mediate and settle the lawsuit to ensure finality for any potential claims against the estate. Weiner further explained they were prepared to defend themselves at trial but chose settlement to resolve the matter.
This settlement adds to previous payouts from Epstein’s estate, which has already distributed $121 million through a restitution fund and an additional $49 million in settlements to victims. Epstein died by suicide in a New York jail in August 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges, and in January, the Department of Justice released millions of documents revealing Epstein’s connections to prominent individuals.
