‘We Were Wrong’: Karol G Accusers Drop Song Lawsuit – and Apologize for Suing Her

Billboard
Two producers who sued Karol G for song theft have dropped the lawsuit and publicly apologized, admitting their claims were mistaken.

Summary

Two producers, Ocean Vibes (Jack Hernandez) and Alfr3d Beats (Dick Alfredo Caballero Rodriguez), have dropped their lawsuit against Karol G regarding her song “Gatúbela” and issued a public apology. They originally claimed the song stole elements from their earlier track, “Punto G.” However, evidence, including studio session files, revealed that Karol G’s producer, DJ Maff, created the beat for “Gatúbela” two weeks before “Punto G” was published.

In a rare move for song-theft lawsuits, Hernandez and Rodriguez admitted they “were wrong” and apologized to Karol G and DJ Maff. This outcome is unusual, as such cases often end with confidential dismissals, not public admissions of fault. Legal experts suggest Karol G’s attorneys may have threatened to seek repayment of legal fees, a tactic used by other artists like Mariah Carey and Nelly.

Karol G’s album *Mañana Será Bonito*, which featured “Gatúbela,” was a major success, winning a Latin Grammy and reaching No. 1 on the Billboard 200. The producers initially asserted that “Gatúbela” was a “forgery,” but Karol G’s team maintained the song was independently created, a claim now supported by the evidence.
