Township continues lawsuit against trash hauler
Summary
West Bloomfield Township has filed a lawsuit against its trash hauler, Priority Waste Management, alleging a breach of contract. The issues began after Priority Waste acquired GFL Environmental USA in June 2024, with residents reporting missed pickups, delayed recycling bin deliveries, and damaged bins. More recently, billing disputes over late fees have arisen. The township seeks to reinstate the “Rewards for Recycling” program and recover unpaid environmental service fees (ESF) totaling nearly $31,000 for the second quarter of 2025 and nearly $155,000 for the third quarter. The lawsuit, filed in Macomb County Circuit Court, also requests monthly reports detailing collected materials, revenue from recyclables, and associated costs. Township Supervisor Jonathan Warshay stated that Priority Waste sometimes failed to complete scheduled routes, and the township hopes to improve service through either a court decision or an agreement with Priority. Vicent Hoyumpa was recently appointed interim CEO of Priority Waste after the ousting of Todd Stamper.
