Qantas to pay $95 million to customers for cancelled Covid flights
Summary
Qantas Airways has agreed to pay A$105 million (approximately S$95.1 million) to resolve a class action lawsuit alleging it misled customers and withheld refunds for flights cancelled between 2020 and 2022 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Instead of offering cash refunds, Qantas provided flight credits. Echo Law, the firm representing the Australian passengers, argued that Qantas “unlawfully benefited from customers by holding for years a very significant amount of customer funds that ought to have been refunded.” The settlement, which does not involve an admission of liability from Qantas, requires court approval. The funds will be administered to provide cash refunds to eligible customers, with claims details to be released in the coming weeks and payouts expected in the first half of 2027.
