Qantas to pay $74 million to customers for canceled Covid flights
Summary
Qantas Airways has agreed to pay AU$105 million ($74 million) to settle a class action lawsuit alleging they misled customers and failed to provide cash refunds for flights canceled between 2020 and 2022 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Instead of refunds, Qantas offered flight credits. Echo Law, the firm bringing the class action, claimed Qantas “unlawfully benefited from customers by holding… a very significant amount of customer funds that ought to have been refunded.” The settlement, which does not involve an admission of liability from Qantas, requires court approval. Refunds will be administered starting in the first half of 2027, and details on how customers can claim them will be released by the court in the coming weeks.
