Canadians can now claim compensation for 2022 LastPass data breach
Summary
A class action settlement has been approved for Canadians impacted by the 2022 LastPass data breach, which stemmed from a breach involving a LastPass engineer’s home computer between August 2022 and March 2023. The breach exposed users’ vault backups, names, billing addresses, and phone numbers. Eligible Canadian residents who were affected and did not opt out by December 2025 can file claims for either Ordinary Claims or Crypto Claims.
Ordinary Claims allow users to claim up to $170.05 for time spent addressing the breach (at $34.01/hour for up to five hours) and up to $500 for out-of-pocket expenses incurred by May 31, 2023, with supporting documentation. Crypto Claims allow users to seek damages for lost digital assets linked to the compromised data, requiring documentation and certification.
The claims period began on March 25, 2026, and closes on June 23, 2026, at 11:59 PM PT / 2:59 AM ET. Claims must be submitted electronically or postmarked by the deadline, and payouts will be issued in Canadian dollars via Interac e-transfer or cheque. Claim forms are available on the class action website.
