Tom’s of Maine agrees to settle lawsuit. See if you’re owed money

Portsmouth Herald
Tom's of Maine is settling a class action lawsuit and consumers who purchased their toothpaste between 2020 and 2026 may be eligible for a refund.

Summary

Tom’s of Maine, a subsidiary of Colgate-Palmolive, has agreed to a settlement in a class action lawsuit alleging “deceptive and misleading business practices” regarding its toothpaste products. The lawsuit, filed in December 2025, accused the company of wrongdoing, though Tom’s of Maine denies any misconduct. Consumers who purchased Tom’s toothpaste in the United States between November 21, 2020, and March 6, 2026, may be eligible for a portion of the settlement.

To claim a payout, individuals must submit a claim form by July 6, either online or by mail. Payments will be distributed after final court approval on September 10 and the resolution of any appeals. The amount received will depend on whether proof of purchase is submitted; those without proof may receive the average retail price for one product, while those with proof may receive a full refund for up to three products.

If the total claims exceed available funds, payments will be proportionally reduced. Individuals wishing to opt out of the settlement and pursue independent legal action must submit a request for exclusion to the class administrator by July 6.
