In a divorce settlement, an Accra High Court awarded Joana Quaye GH¢300,000, rejecting her claim for GH¢50 million from her ex-husband, RNAQ.

Summary

The High Court in Accra has concluded the divorce proceedings between business mogul Richard Nii Armah Quaye (RNAQ) and his ex-wife, Joana Quaye, awarding her a lump sum of GH¢300,000. Joana Quaye had initially sought GH¢50 million as part of the divorce settlement, citing her role as co-founder, shareholder, and director of Quick Credit Microfinance Company Limited (now Bills). Justice Kofi Dorgu, the presiding judge, explained that the relatively small award was intended to “discourage divorces” motivated by financial gain.

In addition to the monetary award, the court granted Joana Quaye one-third of the matrimonial property located in Dansoman, consisting of three bedrooms and access to common facilities, as well as two vehicles. RNAQ was also ordered to cover the educational and health expenses of their children.

The judge further commented on Joana Quaye’s prospects, stating she is “physically very attractive and capable of remarrying any time she feels like,” suggesting her ability to rebuild her life post-divorce.
