Hyatt Corporation to pay $1.25 million in Texas hidden fees lawsuit

Chron
Hyatt Corporation will pay $1.25 million to settle a Texas lawsuit alleging deceptive pricing practices with hidden fees.

Summary

Hyatt Corporation has agreed to a $1.25 million settlement with the state of Texas, resolving a lawsuit filed in 2023. The suit alleged that Hyatt violated Texas consumer protection laws by including unavoidable mandatory fees—such as facilities, service, or resort fees—in their advertised hotel room prices. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton stated that these hidden fees gave Hyatt an unfair advantage over companies that are transparent with their pricing.

The settlement requires Hyatt to disclose all additional fees associated with hotel room costs. Hyatt operates over 1,450 hotels globally, including nearly 100 properties within Texas, with significant presence in Houston, Dallas, and Austin.

This settlement is the sixth of its kind reached by the state of Texas against major hotel corporations, with previous agreements made with Marriott, Omni, Choice Hotels, Hilton, and Booking.com, addressing similar deceptive pricing concerns.
