Former O.J. Simpson lawyer files lawsuit, says he’s owed over $1M in fees
Summary
Ronald Slates, a former attorney for O.J. Simpson, has filed a lawsuit against Simpson’s estate in Las Vegas, seeking over $1.1 million in unpaid legal fees. The lawsuit, filed on January 3, 2026, names Malcolm LaVergne, the administrator of Simpson’s estate, as the defendant. Slates’ lawyer, Matthew Pruitt, alleges that Slates represented Simpson in multiple legal matters until his death in April 2024 and that the majority of his fees remain unpaid. A creditor’s claim for the amount was initially filed in October but was allegedly rejected in full by LaVergne in November.
This legal action occurs after Simpson’s estate approved a claim of nearly $58 million for Fred Goldman, the father of Ron Goldman, who was killed in 1994 alongside Nicole Brown Simpson. While Goldman won a civil judgment against Simpson, the estate’s value—estimated at $400,000 to $500,000—is significantly less than the claimed amount. LaVergne has previously expressed reluctance to allocate funds from Simpson’s estate to the Goldman family.
LaVergne stated that the lawsuit will be addressed through the standard legal processes for estate matters. As of Friday night, Pruitt had not responded to requests for comment.
