Austin American-statesman
Amazon is issuing refunds, up to $51, to some Prime customers as part of a $2.5 billion FTC settlement.

Summary

Amazon is providing refunds to eligible Prime customers as a result of a $2.5 billion settlement with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) over deceptive enrollment practices. The FTC accused Amazon of tricking consumers into signing up for Prime memberships without clear consent, violating the FTC Act and the Restore Online Shoppers' Confidence Act (ROSCA). Eligible customers, those who enrolled between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025, and attempted to cancel or signed up through specific methods like Single Page Checkout, may receive up to $51. Payments began in November and continued through December 24th, with payouts occurring in two phases. Amazon is also required to make changes to its Prime enrollment and cancellation processes, including clearer disclosures and easier cancellation methods.
