Amazon prime refunds: Users can now file claims in $2.5B FTC settlement

The Independent
Amazon users can now file claims for a portion of a $2.5 billion settlement with the FTC regarding Prime membership issues.

Summary

A $2.5 billion settlement between Amazon and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) regarding its Prime membership program has entered the claim filing phase, beginning January 5th. The FTC alleged that Amazon misled users into subscribing to Prime and intentionally complicated the cancellation process. While Amazon did not admit wrongdoing, it agreed to the settlement. Automatic payments were issued to eligible Prime members in December, and those who didn’t receive one can now file a claim. Eligible customers will receive notification via email or post with instructions and have 180 days from the date of notice to submit a claim form. The settlement aims to compensate users for potentially unwanted Prime subscriptions and difficult cancellation procedures.
