How to still get up to $51 from the Amazon Prime settlement in 2025

Usa Today
Eligible Amazon Prime customers can still claim up to $51 from a $2.5 billion FTC settlement regarding deceptive enrollment practices.

Summary

In September, the FTC reached a $2.5 billion settlement with Amazon concerning allegations that the company tricked consumers into signing up for Prime memberships and made cancellation difficult. Amazon is now distributing claim notices, but the FTC warns of scammers attempting to exploit the situation. Eligible Prime customers can receive a refund of up to $51, factoring in fees paid during their subscription.

The case stemmed from Amazon’s checkout process, which presented multiple opportunities to subscribe to Prime, and a cancellation process the FTC deemed deliberately obstructive. Automatic refunds were issued to those who used fewer than three Prime benefits between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025.

Those who didn’t receive an automatic refund can now file a claim, confirming unintentional enrollment or unsuccessful cancellation attempts. Claim forms must be submitted within 180 days of receipt, and payments are expected in late 2026. The FTC advises consumers to be wary of scams and emphasizes that neither the FTC nor Amazon will request money for refunds.
