Did you unwittingly sign up for Amazon Prime? You might be eligible for part of a $2.5B settlement

Pennlive
Amazon Prime members who experienced difficulty canceling their subscriptions may be eligible for a portion of a $2.5 billion FTC settlement.

Summary

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) reached a $2.5 billion settlement with Amazon regarding allegations that the company coerced customers into signing up for Prime and made cancellation difficult. Amazon will pay a $1 billion penalty and provide $1.5 billion in refunds to eligible customers, though Amazon denies any wrongdoing, stating they “always followed the law” and work to make sign-up and cancellation simple. To qualify for a refund, customers must have signed up for Prime between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025, and either unsuccessfully attempted to cancel or enrolled through specific “challenged enrollment flows” on Amazon’s website. Eligible customers who used three or fewer Prime benefits may receive automatic refunds, while others must file a claim by July 21, 2026, via the official settlement website, providing a claim ID and PIN. Refunds will be distributed via PayPal, Venmo, or mailed checks, with amounts up to $51.
