Metropolis Technologies will pay $8.75 million to settle claims of deceptive parking practices in Tennessee, including unclear fees and difficult refunds.

Summary

Metropolis Technologies, Inc. has agreed to an $8.75 million settlement with the state of Tennessee following an investigation into deceptive parking practices. The settlement, brokered by Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti, stems from numerous consumer complaints regarding unclear pricing, unexpected fees due to technical errors, and a challenging refund process. Consumers reported receiving notices resembling official government bills, causing confusion and frustration.

Attorney General Skrmetti emphasized the importance of transparent pricing and fair customer service, stating, “Tennesseans work hard for their money, and when they park they deserve a clear price up front and no shenanigans with bogus charges and stonewalling customer service.” The settlement requires Metropolis to implement several corrective measures, including the establishment of a $2.25 million Tennessee Parking Program offering free parking credits, clear and consistent rate postings, a 15-minute grace period in participating lots, and a clear disassociation from any implication of government affiliation.

Tennessee residents with eligible license plates can receive up to $30 in free parking credits in Nashville, Knoxville, and Memphis. Furthermore, individuals who were overcharged between July 1, 2021, and January 6, 2026, will be able to file claims for refunds, with details on the process to be announced soon.
