Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has reached a settlement with Cal-Maine Foods Inc. following a lawsuit filed in April 2020, alleging the company illegally raised egg prices by approximately 300 percent during the COVID-19 pandemic. As part of the agreement, Cal-Maine will donate 180,000 dozen large eggs to food banks across Texas within the next 120 days. The eggs will be distributed to food banks across the state, with the North Texas Food Bank and Houston Food Bank receiving at least 30,000 dozen each, and smaller allocations to other regional food banks. The settlement also prevents Cal-Maine from future price gouging during designated disaster periods, aiming to protect Texans from unethical price increases. Paxton stated his office will continue to prosecute corporations engaging in illegal price hikes.
